Big ideas into actionable strategies.
Nassau County is creating a blueprint for a healthy, sustainable, and prosperous future. Starting in 2023, the County led a collaborative visioning process that engaged the community to imagine life over the next 25 years. Through numerous stakeholder listening sessions, community events, presentations, and over 11,000 responses to a county-wide visioning survey, we learned what values should be upheld and how the community can grow and adapt over time. The outcome was a set of key building blocks for success and a countywide map indicating preferred growth and conservation patterns. The Board of County Commissioners officially adopted Vision 2050 on June 23, 2025. Click here to view the details of the engagement process throughout the vision plan.
Now, Nassau County is taking the next step in future planning: updating its Comprehensive Plan. This plan is the County’s long-term policy guide for managing growth and shaping public investments through the year 2050. Each goal, objective, and policy within the Plan offers specific guidance on how to uphold the Vision as the community grows and changes. This means that when County leaders are faced with choices about housing, transportation, schools, utilities, coastal management, agriculture, recreation, and conservation, their decisions must be grounded in the principles within the Comprehensive Plan.
Florida’s Growth Management Law requires cities and counties to periodically update their Comprehensive Plans. Nassau County anticipates adopting its Plan update in 2026.
Together, we will:
Put people first by protecting Nassau's character, providing quality public services, and ensuring access to jobs and housing.
Enhance resiliency by proactively planning for growth that accommodates future demands & protects our rich natural resources, environmentally sensitive areas, waterways, working/agricultural lands, & special places.
Provide a roadway system that allows for safe, convenient, and efficient travel throughout the county. Prepare for future needs and enhance walking, biking, and other types of transportation for residents and visitors.
Protect our local sense of place and strong community ties; recognize and celebrate Nassau County's unique history and culture; preserve historic landmarks, sites, and special places; promote arts, culture, and local traditions; and conserve our natural places and public spaces.
